Silent Keys

BARC FRIENDS – NOW SK’S – FROM THE PAST I REMEMBER (courtesy of Graham Shortreed, VE7ABC)

VE7BC TOM WONG
I believe that Tom was one of the original members. One of Tom’s many accomplishments was bringing Chinese amateur radio back on air. In 1982 Tom operated from BY1PK, and I think he was the first Non Chinese to operate an Amateur Station in China after many years of no Amateur Radio at all in China.

VE7DG DAN GENTRY

VE7CIM BILL SLAUGHTER
Owner of Burnaby radio, and on BARC field days would often supply radio gear for satellite contacts.

VE7CJT WALLY GARRET
Wally was a long time radio personality at radio station CKNW. He was the host at one time, of the most popular radio show on the lower mainland for a long period of time. Broadcast daily on 980 AM, he was the host and joker of the very popular show “FIESTA” from 9 til noon Monday thru Friday.

VE7ECE MAX WEISNER
One of very few people that I felt comfortable with when working up 50 feet+ on a tower issue or doing some antenna or rotator work.

VE7FKN NORM KIRK
Good friend of VE7JPW. They went to many ham fests together.

VE7FZB GRAEME WRIGHT
Graeme was a fixture at ALL ham radio flea markets, mostly buying, but on the odd occasion selling older ham radio gear. A great person who loved CW and old radios.

VE7HNC HARRY CURTIS
Past President of BARC. Harry had contacts at the New Westminster Armory, and made it possible for the Club to hold its annual Flea Market there. It was held there for a number of years and we could brag about it being the “Largest Ham Radio Flea Market in Western Canada” for a long time.
