First Open Radio Orienteering, 2m band event – “Fox Hunt”

Time : From 10 am to 3 pm. Gathering and equipment demonstration from 10 am till 11 am.
Venue : Robert Burnaby Park, Burnaby, BC.
Meet up at the the southeast corner, intersection of Hill Ave and Wedgewood St.

Goals:
- Opportunity for newcomers to try out Radio Orienteering under non-competition conditions.
- Map reading - Orienteering. (map provided, compass and pen required).
- Exchanging technical ideas and learning valuable radio direction finding skills.
TXs-foxes: Five ammo-can style 2m band foxes on 146.490 MHz. Mode VHF F2A.

RXs: There will be extra 2m band receivers, as well as active offset attenuators with directional antennas, to loan on-site (bring your handheld). There will be also technical assistance and documentation regarding equipment operation for newcomers.
Note: Amateur Radio license not required to operate a receiver.
Information about the park: Robert Burnaby Park offers a combination of quiet walks and outdoor activities that make it ideal for family picnics or individual exploration. This network of trails in quiet surroundings of forested creek ravine was built during the Great Depression of the 1930s and is still heavily used by walkers and joggers. Nature lovers enjoy the diversity of creeks that flow beneath the towering conifer canopy.
The southeast corner comes alive with children playing in the playground or people splashing in the outdoor pool uphill from the tennis courts. People also enjoy playing baseball at the Fourth Street ball diamond or challenging themselves and friends to a game of disc golf. The disc golf course is accessed from the parking lot at the bottom of Hill Avenue.
Getting to Robert Burnaby Park: Follow Canada Way to 16th Avenue, turn northeast, then left on 1st Street, and right on Wedgewood St. (Not accessible from Highway 1).
