The Father's Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer Research is an annual event that takes place on the trail around Burnaby Lake. We're looking for volunteers to help with this year's event. Operators will be positioned at various locations around the lake and would need to be in position from approx. 9am to 1pm.

Some of the positions require a little bit of walking from the parking area to the trail so a handheld (and spare battery) is preferred. New hams are always welcome, no experience necessary.

We are also looking for an operator for the net control position. This event is great for anyone wanting to get their feet wet as net control. A handheld, mobile, or other portable battery operated kit is needed.

There will be food, drinks, and prize draws for the volunteers.

Please contact Karla, VA7KJW (va7kjw@shaw.ca) for more information and to sign-up.

Band:

  • 2m (144-148MHz)

Times:

Place: As promised, we have announced the venue as Burnaby Lake Regional Park. Click for a map to the event location and for an overview map of the Burnaby Lake area.

To further Orient those not familiar with Burnaby (the city on the East boundary of the City of Vancouver), Highway 1 is the main East West (TransCanada) Highway into Vancouver and is South of the site.
Lougheed highway (#7 highway) is a main East West arterial to the North of the site. Gaglardi Way is a major North South Arterial (leads to Simon Fraser University) and is East of the Site. The West site Boundary is Kensington Avenue. The trick is that the Park entrance (Avalon Avenue) is off of Cariboo Road. As this area was extensively cut up when the Gaglardi/Hwy 1 intersection was developed, it may be a bit strange to find. I got lost leaving the site this week! The Equestrian Center and the RV Park have signs and that will get you into the area.

We will be meeting in the parking lot at the end of Avalon Avenue (Past the Park offices and the Equestrian Center).

If all else fails we will be monitoring VE7RBY (145.35 – T127.3)

We are looking forward to meeting you and providing a fun event.
