Austria-based Professor Martin Kaltenbrunner has created a device that sends tweets using Morse code. He also provides source code and schematics if you'd like have a go at building your own!

ARDF - Region 2 VHF Results

The first results from New Mexico are in. Today's competition was on the 2m band. There will be a second competition tomorrow using 80m.

Preliminary results for Team Canada;

  • M21 Grant Van Skiver VE7GVS -- Gold
  • W21 Stevie Van Skiver VE7SWX -- Silver
  • M50 Nick Roethe DF1FO -- Silver
  • M60 Keith Witney VE7MID -- 5th

The course was in Los Alamos at about 7500 ft and had exclusion Zones for a live fire range and unexploded ordinance. Guest participants were from Germany, The Ukraine and China.

Results from the 2011 Friendship Radio Games

Our congratulations go to Keith, VE7MID, who has won 2 bronze medals in the 2011 Friendship Radio Games in Khabarovsk, Russia.

FRG 2011 Khabarovsk Results:

  • VE7MID Individual — CW TX 12/29, CW RX 5 (32 WPM), Pile up 4th , ARDF 4th in class 5th /30 Overall
  • Team Canada — CW RX Bronze, CW Pile-up Bronze, ARDF DNQ (needed two finishers), HF Contest Bronze

Silent Key - Barry Hing VE7BWH

Barry Hing, VE7BWH, passed away July 28, 2011. Barry was a past member of VECTOR and an active member of the Richmond Amateur Radio Club. He was also a driving force at VGH and Coastal Health in getting VA7VGH set up. Barry will be missed by many in the amateur radio community.

There will be a moment of silence on amateur radio (146.460 Mhz) on Wednesday August 3rd at 8:30am prior to the monthly Emergency Communications test.

Celebration of Light - Volunteers Needed

The 2011 Celebration of Light is just around the corner. This event will take place on July 30th (China), August 3rd (Spain) and August 6th (Canada). Each year the event seems to get better than the previous years.

Volunteers are still needed for all three nights. If you have a favorite spot and are available for any of the nights we will try to put you at the location you want. Please remember if you have not done the Celebration of Light before, you will be paired with an experienced individual.

There will be a formal briefing at ECOMM on July 20th at 1900 hrs. The Debrief will take place on August 17th at ECOMM.
