About 30 people attended the Burnaby Amateur Radio Club Fox Hunt on July 17, 2010.
Fourteen teams or individuals participated including local teams as well as teams from Oregon, Washington and Victoria.
Organization was up to the challenge: Keith VE7MID (fox-hunt) and Lou VE7CGE (BBQ). Course was around 8km in the total distance.

Results: Elite division;
1st place - Les Tocko VA7OM won in 1:11 with 4 foxes, 2nd place - Amel Krdzalic VA7KBA in 1:16 with 4 foxes, 3rd place - Dale Hunt WB6BYU in 1:23 with 4 foxes.

In the Novice Division;
1st place - Al Ferguson N7OMS in 1:30 with 4 foxes.
2nd place - Kuon Hunt KB7WRG in 1:15 with 2 foxes, 3rd place - Joe Young VE7BFK won in 1:31 (Out of time) with 3 foxes.

The event and BBQ were well received by all. Keith VE7MID also demonstrated the Doppler RDF unit, while fellow Victorians demonstrated 80m band gear with 2 foxes hidden in the area.
We had a great sunny day and we all enjoyed it very much.

As this is becoming and nice tradition I invite everybody to come and participate in next year's (mid July 2011) fox-hunt.

On Sunday June 20th, the Burnaby Amateur Radio Club, its members, and other amateur radio operators generously volunteered for the 2010 Father's Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer. This is the eighth year that the Burnaby club has provided assistance with radio communications for this event through the use of the repeater system and coordinating volunteer operators.

This year 921 registered participants and over 500 spectators raised more than $180,000. Well done!!

Thanks to all who helped in making this a successful event!

Call for Volunteers - Celebration of Light

The dates for the Celebration of Light have been announced, the dates are July 21, 24, 28 and 31. This event draws about 1 ½ million people to it over the 4 nights and is a major activity for us. We will require between 50 and 60 operators on the beach each night.

If you are available please contact jforsyth@vectorradio.ca. If you have participated in the past and have a favourite location, please put that into the email and we will try and secure it for you. This event really does make amateur radio shine, our involvement exposes Amateur Radio to a lot of the same people that we would be working with in an activation and allows our skills to be exposed to them.

Best Regards,
Jim
